We understand that the requirements to become a surrogate in Colorado feel like a lot and can seem really strict. But please understand that we follow the guidelines set by fertility clinics and The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

We also use these surrogate requirements as a starting point to get to know you. Our goal is always to ensure as successful and healthy of a journey as possible for everyone involved!

 
 

Surrogate requirements for becoming a surrogate with Adoption and Surrogacy Choices of Colorado include:

Personal:

  • Surrogate must be between the ages of 21 and 39
  • Surrogates must be a U.S. citizen and live in the United States
  • In most circumstances, Surrogates must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of no higher than 30. Calculate Your BMI
  • Can pass a background check

Health and Pregnancy:

  • Are healthy and free of sexually-transmitted diseases
  • Must have had at least one healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy
  • Can not have had postpartum depression after previous pregnancies/child(ren)
  • Can not have any mental health issues
  • Can not have been on any medication for depression, bi-polar, or other mental health issues

Parenting

  • Must be actively parenting at least one child
  • Can not be parenting any children on Medicaid, food stamps or TANF

Financial

  • Are not currently on public assistance
  • Be able to travel as needed for appointments

Lifestyle and Support

  • Do not smoke or take illegal drugs
  • Are not alcohol dependent
  • Have a stable lifestyle and support system
  • If married or partnered, the surrogate must have her partner’s support
